The focus is to enable farmers to own, control, manage and benefit from the agro-diversity at local, national and internationals level through supporting conservation, restoration, recuperation and enhancement of plant genetic resources.
The main focus of the programme is the management of agro-biodiversity for enhancing sustainable livelihoods and requires intervention strategies designed to facilitate restoration and enhancement for achieving both seed and food sovereignty. The programme helps farmers increase their ability to manage agro-biodiversity and to benefit from it. The approach acknowledges and builds on diversity farming associated with local knowledge systems, practices, low external inputs, innovations and technologies. Linkages are made between formal and local communities to facilitate technology sharing.
