CTDO joined the global community in commemorating World Aids Day 2025, celebrating under the theme "Traditional Grains: Strengthening Nutrition in the Fight Against HIV." Good nutrition is a powerful tool in supporting people living with HIV. Traditional grains-rich in energy, protein, fibre, and essential micronutrients play a critical role in boosting immunity, improving treatment outcomes, and enhancing overall wellbeing. At CTDO, we continue to champion the production, consumption, and preservation of traditional grains and indigenous foods, including sorghum, millet, orange maize, Bambara nuts, cowpeas, and traditional vegetables. These foods are climate-resilient, affordable, locally available, and packed with nutrients that support: - Stronger immunity - Better absorption and tolerance of HIV medication (ART) - Improved energy levels and recovery - Reduced malnutrition, especially in vulnerable households. Through our programmes, we work closely with farmers, communities, and support groups to: - Promote the cultivation of traditional crops - Strengthen seed systems and access to diverse nutritious varieties - Provide nutrition education focusing on HIV-sensitive diets - Improve household food security and resilience against climate shocks. Traditional grains are more than just crops, they are a lifeline for households affected by HIV. By empowering communities to grow and consume these foods, we are contributing to healthier, stronger families and a resilient food system. NUTRITIOUS, RESILIENT, INDIGENOUS. Together, we can nourish our communities and support the fight against HIV
